Now, if you are a Canadian you know what this drink is! (And it’s not a Bloody Mary!)
It is…
…and it’s virtually unknown, and not consumed outside our borders!
First a little history! (collected from Wikipedia)
This yum-yummy drink was invented in my city in 1969! As a matter of fact, May 13 is Caesar Day here.
It’s delicious! Now don’t get weirded out by the ingredients!!
The Caesar
1 oz Vodka (I leave this out, because I genuinely like it better as a Virgin Caesar)
2 dashes of Tabasco Sauce
3 dashes of salt & pepper
4 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
4 oz Motts Clamato Juice
- Rim a glass with celery salt.
- Then combine all ingredients in a fancy glass. Fancy is good.
- Garnish with celery.
- Sip away!
Tips!
- Now what is Clamato Juice you ask? It’s a mixture of clam and tomato juices, made by Motts. Weird, I know. But so, so good!
- We like to use celery salt instead of plain salt, both in the drink and on the rim.
Another great drink with Clamato, is Beer & Clam!
Clamato juice with beer is the best! This is my most fave alcoholic drink evah! Just pour a beer in a glass, and add 3-4 oz Clamato! Yeeeuumm!

Hi I'm Jo-Anna! I mom. I blog. I cook. I craft. I like pretty things.

I’ll have to save this recipe for my Fella ~ he’s a huge Caesar fan! Funny you mention that it’s not a drink known outside Canada. We were in Seattle a few months ago and my daughter ordered one. After an attempt at describing the drink, they gave her a Bloody Mary. Definitely NOT the same thing!
Cheers!!

Learn something new every day! I had no idea that my beloved Caesar was Canadian. So yummy! Thanks for posting – everyone should be privy to the joy that is the Caesar. Hail Caesar!
Haha! I saw this picture and instantly said out loud ohhh yummy a bloody mary! But I was wrong. Pretty cool that your city invented its own drink!
Some of the best drinks in the world are the weirdest ;) Cant wait to try this out!

I had no idea this was a Canadian drink! I’ll have to have a Caesar and some Smarties and celebrate being a Canadian!
Jenn ;)
That sounds very, um, interesting :) I love a bloody mary but I’m a little worried about clamato. But, I ate some crazy stuff recently so I’ll have to try this!
Clamato + beer is the ONLY way to have a red beer -YUMMY!
I never knew it had a name, but this drink IS consumed outside of Canada. It has quite a following in the Philadelphia, PA, area. OK, by “following” I mean me and my family at least. I highly recommend it and now know it has a real name other than Clamatty Mary! I am one if its biggest fans.
I have to share: my dad invented, as far as I know, a non-alcoholic drink that he calls “The Bu-mato Cocktail.” It is a mixture of buttermilk and tomato juice. He would probably like it with Clamato juice, too. :)
I LOVE all the comments!
Anonymous – love the Clamatty Mary – too funny!
and
Mlissabeth – Buttermilk & Tomato Juice! Wow, might have to try it…not sure! ;)
Jo-Anna

Mmm this cocktail looks delicious! :)
this sounds delicious!!
Yum! So is it kind of like a bloody mary? :) I’ll have to pass this along to my dad…he would love it!
I’ve had these and they are deelish!
And, I’m not from Canada, lol. Plenty of Clamato juice here in New York…will definitely have to make these drinks again soon.
Thanks for sharing!
Some yummy variations on the ceaser:
-Use gin instead of vodka
-Use anything pickled instead of celery!!
-Oh and a dash of lime juice or lime wedge is always greatly appreciated <3
Hi Joanna,
A great refreshing drink. It looks so pretty and inviting. Thank you so much for sharing this great recipe with Full Plate Thursday and please come back soon!
Miz Helen
I just stumbled onto your blog today and I am loving it. I am happily following you now. I’ve never heard of a Caesar before, but I bet my husband would love this.
