I don’t know about you, but I love a good sugar scrub!
My hands are so dry from all the things I do during the day,
and sugar scrubs have always helped them feel and be soft.
In the past I have bought them, and the last jar I had was pure luxury.
It was a June Jacobs Lemon Sugar Scrub that was a gift from the hubs and I loved it!
But for $60 a container, I just couldn’t re-buy it!

So I thought, why can’t I make my own?
I can.
I did.
This sugar scrub is pure heaven!
No chemicals, no fragrances, nothing that isn’t natural.
Just sugar and pure coconut oil!
It smells incredible. And yes, I did taste it, it tastes amazing too! ;)

Here’s How-To:
Granulated sugar (just the plain ol’ stuff you already have in the pantry)
Pure Unrefined Coconut Oil (I used Nutiva – it is organic, unrefined, pure)
- Just use a 2:1 ratio of Sugar to Coconut Oil (I used 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup coconut oil)
- In a bowl mix the two together completely.
- Put into a container for use.
- Just rub your hands and/or feet with the scrub, rinse and dry. They will feel soft as a baby’s bum!
Tip!
- Sugar scrubs are best for exfoliating hands and feet. I would never use this on my face.
- Pure coconut oil is solid at room temperature.
- Unrefined coconut oil smells out-of-this world amazing!
- I found the coconut oil in the organic foods aisle at the grocery store. (For the Canadian readers, I bought mine at SuperStore.)

I may be naive, but is there ever an issue with the sugar molding? I would think that any form of ‘wet’ sugar might encourage growth… no?

Hi Loring! That’s actually a really good question, and I wondered about that myself… So far no mold! I’ve had mine on the counter in my kitchen since the beginning of August and it’s still nice and moist and no mold!

Oh my! This sounded so wonderful that I put my laptop aside, went straight to my kitchen, got out my coconut oil (YUMMIE) & sugar & made a lovely little batch!! (It took all of 2-3 minutes) … I’m back with soft, delicious smelling hands!! And, yah, I tasted it too … DeLiCiOuS!! :)

Ok I bought coconut oil to try to make this after seeing it on pinterest – I just noticed the tip on the coconut oil being solid at room temperature. So I didn’t buy the wrong stuff? Will it work or be too thick???
@Anonymous Hi! If the stuff you have is solid, it’s the right stuff! If it’s an oil, I’m sure it would work too… But the solid stuff is what I use! I hope you love the scrub!

@DeeHi Dee! I found the jar at the dollar store of all places! Dollar stores tend to carry a lot of jars similar to this and they are fabulous for packaging goodies in!

If you find sugar too harsh (or want to use it on your face) then I’ve found ground almonds makes a good substitute

I made this scrub yesterday – it was great then. Today it is rock solid. How can I prevent the coconut oil from solidifying?
all i could find was coconut BUTTER, it’s all natural though, it says “whole coconut pulp.” will that work too?

Omg i tried it my hands and feet are amazin great for the hubby with rough really rough hands n i tried it as a facial it was amazing …..
Question: should this be used on wet or dry skin???????

You can use this scrub on either wet or dry skin. I like to use it on dry skin myself, as I find it exfoliates much better!
