Blueberry Buttermilk Muffins

I think these Blueberry Buttermilk Muffins just might be one of my most favourite of all time.  They’re sweet, soft and bursting with the delicious flavour of blueberries!  These actually remind me of the muffins you can get at Starbucks that are SO good…oh and warmed up?  The best!

These muffins are perfect for the summer months when blueberries are bountiful!  But they’re also fantastic for when you need a little mid-winter pick me up, because they will take you back, momentarily to the hazy days of summer!

They’re moist, sweet and bursting with blueberries!  They kind of remind me of those super delicious blueberry muffins that Starbucks use to sell…yum.

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 - 2 cups blueberries (frozen)


  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt.
  2. Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs and milk.
  3. Combine flour mix and butter mix. Don't over-mix or your muffins will be chewy.
  4. Add frozen blueberries, and mix by hand. Frozen berries work the best because the berries stay in one piece and they don't tend to colour your batter blue.
  5. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

  • Reply Michele August 27, 2015 at 12:11 PM Jo-Anna, I LOVE blueberry muffins!!!! So this recipe can be cooked in a cake pan? I don't own a cupcake pan & was wondering if I could use a loaf pan ? (5 1/2 x 9 1/2 dark, I know very little about cooking. I just measured this pan but I don't think that's the "professional measurement. a loaf pan you'd make meatloaf or homemade bread in. Excuse my ignorance.) Or a square pan, light color, silver or grey, whatever it's called. I stay away from grease: oil & butter so may I use waxpaper to line the entire pan??? Should I make sure it doesn't stick out of the pan or it will burn? I've never cooked with waxpaper before. I REALLY want to make these, now if I could!!! Yum!!! Any advice would be appreciated. I'm sharing the link to another recipe that I think would work better for's basically the same recipe as the muffins, but it's made in a pan. For this particular recipe I used a 9x9 baking pan. I added a bit of lemon zest and lemon juice just because I love all things lemon and when added to blueberries it's double the goodness. I will delete all of my other blueberry recipes as this is the only one I will ever need. Thank you??? Joanne
