My Holiday Home

Hello!  Welcome to my holiday home!  Come on in…

You may have already seen our outdoor trimming!  So please, come inside…

There’s no theme in here.  And not much changes from year to year…but that’s just the way we like it.  Christmas is all about tradition and recreating memories.  I think even if I wanted to completely change the look of it all, the kids just would not go for it.  There’d be a mutiny.

And besides, what would I do with all of our amazing ornaments?!  None of them match, yet they all seem to compliment each other.  We have so many that our tree is front heavy.  Two years in a row our tree has fallen over from the weight of all of them!  No kidding.  The first time we blamed it on our newly purchased tree stand.  This year we used our old stand that never failed us…except that the tree fell about 20 minutes after we finished decorating it…hmmmm…maybe not the stand?  Maybe our hundreds of ornaments and how disproportionately they were distributed?!

Here’s this years tragedy…and being the blogger that I am it went immediately onto Instagram, lol!

Ouch.  Let me tell you this sounds really really loud.  And there were a lot of tears.  And broken ornaments…but we got it back up and the damage was a lot less worse than it first appeared.  So here’s how it looks now…

Pretty.  And tied up.  A few ornaments with glued on legs and skates.  But we’ll always remember when and why they broke.  😉

Isn’t it so festive?!  We love it.

I love this little corner of our home at Christmas.  You can see and smell the tree from pretty much anywhere on our main floor.  It’s the main attraction.  And it compliments my simple Christmas mantel really nicely.

I also fill our coffee table with ornaments to tie it all together…love love this Ikea table.

So here’s how things look at night.  It’s much more pretty in real life…

And because I can’t resist the opportunity to put in a Bokeh picture of our tree…

The last thing I wanted to show you is our garland wrapped staircase.  It’s the same garland as what’s on the mantel, so everything ties together so nice.  I love these…even when I am picking up the 100th shatterproof ornament that has bounced across the floor that day.  It’s become kind of joke really…our 3 year old picks them up too and puts them all in the same spot.  On the same branch.  😉

This is how they look at night.  Love.

So that’s it.  We’re ready for Christmas!
Thank you so much for stopping by, and have a very Merry day!

Holiday Gift Wrapping Ideas, Part 1: Kraft Paper

The holiday season is just around the corner!  It’s the time of year so many of us wait for!

Ok, I do agree, it is still a little early, but I’m going to sneak in a few things…just because I want to…why not?  😉  So I’m going to start with festive wrapping!  (You could use the ideas for Thanksgiving hostess gifts too…just switch up the colours…)

For me, wrapping seems to be the last thing I prepare for, and I’m usually scrambling around last minute wrapping gifts with rolls I find in our basement from Christmases past…oops.  And ironically I find gift wrapping one of the most pretty parts of the holiday season.  I am drawn to pretty packaging, pretty paper and the detail that goes into wrapping gifts!

I thought this year I’d get my act together and get a jumpstart putting some ideas together!  So I’m going to do a series of different types of wrapping.  Everything from the simple & beautiful use of kraft paper to the sparkle & shine of glitter.  So the first set in this series is the use of kraft paper!

I’ve always loved the rustic simplicity of kraft paper.  And I think it looks most beautiful with the traditional holiday colours of red, green, white, silver and gold.  So I attacked my existing stash of craft and scrapbook supplies, and got to work!  You can have big impact with stuff you already have around your home – we always have more than we think!  With that in mind, I didn’t spend a cent on this set of wrapping.  I just used what I already had, and this is what I came up with!

Simple.  Rustic.  Festive.  Pretty!

Holiday Gift Wrapping Ideas Using Kraft Paper

(Starting in the upper left corner…)

1.  Wrap on some red ribbon and add a few painted pine cones.  Just simple & earthy.

2.  Using bakers twine, string on some gold & silver bells, and wrap it up!

3.  Red velvet ribbon looks so pretty on neutral paper.  Embellish with some winter inspired pieces!

4.  I love the bakers twine with the white pom pom ribbon!  Add a key label tag…so cute!

5.  Silver bells and sequins are so great for the holidays!  And perfect for wrapping!

6.  Silver glitter ribbon and a red & white ribbon together make a classy, simple statement.

7.  This pretty reindeer ribbon just seems to inspire thoughts of Christmas in the mountains!

8.  Love the red velvet and glittery green snowflake!  Classic Christmas colours!

All of my supplies were from my own stash of craft stuff (most of the ribbon I had bought over the years from Michaels)!  I loved the challenge of wrapping these gifts with stuff I had.  And I think I succeeded in making the impact I was going for!  Now my craft stash is going to shrink this season…making room for more stuff!  Love it!  😉

 Have a beautiful day!
