When ever I go to a party and I see a Brie on the table I do a little happy dance inside.  I cannot resist Brie cheese.  It’s so creamy and delicious and pairs so well with everything. Left to my own devices I could literally eat an entire wheel by myself.  I would regret it on many levels, but oh my, can you just imagine?

Honey Nut Brie Appetizer

Brie goes with everything.  But I wonder, does anything pair with Brie cheese better than something sweet?  I don’t think so.  Every time I make a baked Brie I seem to add some kind of sweet jam or compote because the sweetness just goes so well with the creaminess of the cheese.

Honey Nut Brie Appetizer

Then I thought what about something simple like honey and nuts?  I’m all about keeping things simple, especially around the holidays.  If I can whip up something delicious that I know my guests will enjoy, and be able to do it in minutes, I’m sold.  Enter, the Honey Nut Brie Appetizer.  A deliciously sweet and creamy honey sauce with crunchy delicious pecans, served over a creamy Brie cheese wheel.  So delicious.  You can serve the Brie at room temperature, or bake it (which is best), and serve it up with your favourite dippers.

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 Brie cheese wheel
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1/3 cup pecans
  • slices of baguette
  • apples
  • grapes

Instructions

  1. Chop the pecans, keeping the size coarse. Set aside.
  2. In a saucepan on low heat melt the butter.
  3. Stir in the honey and brown sugar, until smooth and the sugar is dissolved. Be careful not to cook the mixture or let it boil or the honey/sugar mix will become too hard. You just want the sugar to dissolve.
  4. Stir in the chopped pecans.

Serving Option #1:

  1. You can serve this sauce over a room temperature Brie, if you prefer.
  2. Just pour the honey/nut mixture over the Brie cheese wheel and serve.

Serving Option #2:

  1. If you like your Brie soft and a little warm, you can bake this dish as well.
  2. Just pour the honey/nut mixture over the Brie cheese wheel, then put it in a 350 degree oven for about 5-8 minutes, or until the Brie has softened, but not burst.

Dippers:

  1. Serve with slices of fresh baguette or crackers, and some apple slices and grapes.
